“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:18–19
There are seasons in life when the words new beginning don’t feel exciting. In fact, they can feel exhausting.
Maybe you’ve prayed for change, but it seems like every step forward comes with uncertainty. Maybe you’ve closed a chapter you never wanted to end. Or perhaps you’ve been carrying disappointment for so long that hope feels risky.
New beginnings can be hard because they require us to let go of what is familiar—even when what is familiar isn’t good for us.
Recently, while walking through the beauty of God’s creation, I saw something that I had never seen, a white butterfly.
It landed quietly, almost as if it had been placed there just for that moment. I couldn’t help but smile. In that instant, I was reminded that transformation is often quiet before it becomes visible.
A butterfly doesn’t become beautiful overnight. It spends time hidden in the cocoon, where change is taking place that no one can see.
Isn’t that how God often works in us?
Sometimes we become so focused on what we’ve lost that we completely miss what God is creating.
Your Mindset Determines What You See
Our minds are powerful.
When we expect failure, we often notice every obstacle.
When we expect God to move, we begin noticing His fingerprints everywhere.
The same trail can either look like a dead end or an invitation to discover something new.
The difference is often our mindset.
Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. God doesn’t simply change our circumstances—He changes the way we think.
That means we stop saying:
- “I’ve missed my chance.”
- “I’m too old.”
- “I’ve failed too many times.”
- “Nothing will ever change.”
Instead, we begin declaring:
- God is not finished with me.
- My past is not my identity.
- Every ending can become the doorway to God’s next beginning.
- I choose faith over fear and expectancy over doubt.

Watch for Your Butterfly
Was that white butterfly simply part of nature?
Perhaps.
But God has always used His creation to remind us of His faithfulness. Whether it was a rainbow after the flood, lilies in the field, sparrows in the sky, or a butterfly resting quietly on a branch, His creation has a way of pointing our hearts back to Him.
Maybe your “white butterfly” won’t actually have wings.
Maybe it will be an unexpected conversation.
A Scripture that leaps off the page.
A closed door that protects you.
A sunrise that reminds you His mercies are new every morning.
Don’t dismiss the small reminders.
Sometimes God whispers before He shouts.
If you’re standing at the edge of a new beginning today, don’t let fear convince you to stay where you’ve outgrown.
Choose faith.
Renew your mind.
Trust the One who specializes in making all things new.
Because your next chapter doesn’t begin when your circumstances change.
It begins the moment you believe that God is already writing something beautiful.

What old thought, fear, or belief do you need to leave behind so you can embrace the new beginning God is placing before you?
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You are always at work, even when I cannot see it. Renew my mind so I can recognize Your hand in every season. Help me release what is behind and step forward with confidence into the future You have prepared for me. When fear tells me to stay where I am, remind me that You are the God of new beginnings. Give me eyes to notice the “white butterflies” You place along my path—those gentle reminders that You are near and You are making all things new. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
